Celebrate Christmas Past at Island Farm

Posted By on December 10, 2013

You’re invited to celebrate Christmas Past at Island Farm on Roanoke Island this weekend.

This day of holiday events is set for this Saturday, December 14, starting at 2pm when Santa Claus is scheduled to arrive by ox-drawn wagon to deliver the farm’s Christmas tree.

Santa will then hang out to take wagon rides with the kids until 4pm.

From 6 to 7pm, Santa will be inside the farmhouse by a warm fire telling Christmas stories.

Every half-hour from 3:30 to 7:30, you can watch vignette performances of “The Christmas Gift” by Director of the Theatre Program and Associate Professor of Theatre at Elizabeth City State University Billica Hines and drama student Akeem Williams.

There will also be candle making from 2 to 4pm, and you can make your own corn husk doll ornament to take home with you, after sampling the foods of a 19th Century Christmas in the cookhouse, including lighting of the figgy pudding and preparing the goose for dinner.

Hot cider and ginger cookies will be served at the Visitors Center.

Admission is $8 for ages 6 and up, and free for children 5 and under.
