Mystery Dinner Premiering in Kill Devil Hills in 2014 [Exclusive]

Posted By on October 8, 2013

The OBX Mystery Dinner is coming to Kill Devil Hills this spring, when audience members will get to solve a comedy mystery all while enjoying a four-course meal.

The actors also serve as your wait staff giving you an opportunity to “bribe” them for more clues, as correct answers will be eligible for a prize.

OBX Mystery Dinner is being billed as perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, date night, school groups, or whatever else you can think of, promising  “You’ll die laughing”.

According to owner Matthew Marberry, the show will be broken down into five 10-15 minute scripted scenes, with the action taking place throughout the entire dining room.

“In our banquet-style setting,” Marberry told OBX Entertainment, “we can seat up to 120 guests. We can accommodate tables for your party, large or small.

“When you arrive, you will be met at the door by one or two of the evening’s ‘suspects’ who will help you find your seats, show you to our cash bar, and get you ready for the mystery about to unfold.

“When the first scene starts, keep an eye out for any suspicious activity. Between scenes, our cast (always in character) serves you a delicious four-course dinner. This gives you a chance to question each of the suspects about key elements of the murder.

“During the ‘Dessert Break’ we recognize audience members who are celebrating a special occasion, such as a birthday or anniversary, with a hilarious sing-a-long.

“At the end of the evening we collect your answers and have a raffle for all correct answers.”

The first show will be Marriage Can Be Murder, written by James Daab, where you have been invited to Lisa and Michael’s wedding and reception, and you may find yourself doing the “Hokey Pokey” or becoming a member of the wedding party.

Wedded bliss is not the only thing that is short-lived as the nuptials turn noxious and someone bumps off the mother-in-law. You’ll laugh until you cry figuring out whodunit in this silly trip down the aisle.

Auditions for the first production will be held in April, looking to fill six paid acting positions including:

Maid of Honor: Female, Age Range: 20-35

Ronnie: Male, Age Range: 20-40

Bride: Female: Age Range: 20-35

Groom: Male, Age Range: 20-35

Mother of the Groom: Female, Age Range: 40-60

Father of the Bride: Male, Age Range: 40-60

Opening night of the OBX Mystery Dinner is set for May 23, 2014 inside the Comfort Inn at milepost 9.5 in Kill Devil Hills.
