The Dare County Arts Council and The Beach Book are pleased to announce their 18th Annual Beach Book Cover Art Competition Exhibit.

This annual exhibit and competition showcases work from area artists, and the winning piece will grace the cover of over 65,000 editions of the 2014 Beach Book Telephone Directory.

The theme for this year’s competition is “Discoveries of the Outer Banks.”

The exhibit opened to the public at the Dare County Arts Council Gallery in Manteo on October 4, and will run through October 28.

Gallery hours are 10am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, and noon until 4pm on Saturdays.

An opening reception will be held this Friday, Oct. 11, from 6 to 8 pm, where guests will have an opportunity to vote for the People’s Choice Award.

The 2012 winner was Phillip Scott Cameron for his painting “Beachside” (pictured below). Three honorable mention awards were also presented to Elaine Simoneau for her painting “Soundside”, Michael Steiner for his photograph “Rusty Boat”, and to Carolina Coto for her painting “Julia’s Discovery”.
