Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Open Through November

Posted By on October 8, 2013

The Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Historic Site & Museum is open as usual and will not be affected by the ongoing federal government shoutdown, as it is a private nonprofit 501(c)(3) raising most all of its own funding through admission tickets, Gift Shop sales, memberships, and raffles.

The historic Life-Saving Station receives no federal (or state) funds, and Chicamacomico is not part of the National Park Service.

Come and discover one of America’s premier maritime museums, showcasing the little-known, yet most fascinating aspects of American history, that of the United States Life-Saving Service.

They were America’s first “Rescue Heroes,” and were the predecessors of today’s U.S. Coast Guard.

Chicamacomico is the largest, most complete oceanfront U.S. Life-Saving Service complex left in America. All of Hatteras Island’s seven villages and their businesses are open.

The Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Historic Site & Museum is one of the many sites on the Historic Albemarle Tour and the National Outer Banks Scenic Byway.

The local landmark is located in Rodanthe, the northernmost village of Cape Hatteras Island, oceanside on NC Highway 12, and is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm from mid-April to end of November.
