‘Captain Phillips’ Starring Tom Hanks Reveals New Trailer [VA Film]
Filmed partly in Virginia Beach, the second official trailer has come online for Captain Phillips, about real life cargo ship captain Richard Phillips who was taken hostage by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean in 2009, starring Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, Big) in the title role.
The movie is based on Phillips’ book “A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea”, in which he recounts offering himself as a hostage and facing a five-day standoff that only ended with a rescue by Navy SEALs.
It was the first time that an American cargo ship had been hijacked in 200 years.
The production filmed scenes in Virginia Beach, Virginia for a few weeks last summer.
From director Paul Greengrass (United 93, The Bourne Identity), you can watch the intense new trailer in the player below, and then scroll down to view two new posters, and be sure to let us hear what you think in the comments!
Captain Phillips opens in theaters on October 11.
