The first ever Brew Thru Summer Concert brought Grammy-winners Blues Traveler to the stage live before a massive crowd under the stars in the outdoor pavilion at Roanoke Island Festival Park last night, and OBXentertainment.com was there to bring you the following concert review and photo gallery!

Matt Mcguire raged on stage with the Wilder Brothers to kick off the night, as the Festival Park lawn located on the scenic Roanoke Sound quickly filled up with fans young and old.

Many brought their own lawn chairs, while others came equipped with Frisbees, Nerf footballs, or hula hoops to help them enjoy the cool, slightly overcast evening that proved perfect weather for the concert.

Many younger children could be seen running around and playing as Maguire and the Wilders wrapped up and Virginia’s Pat McGee Band took the stage for their set.

After Brew Thru owner Philip Foreman thanked the excited crowd in attendance and company mascot “Big D” throw out some T-shirts, it was time for the main event, as frontman John Popper and the rest of Blues Traveler casually strolled into view and picked up their instruments, proceeding directly into a riotous rendition of the Charlie Daniels classic “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”, with Popper killing those famous fiddle parts on harmonica.

Another surprise cover came a few minutes later when the band launched into the Sublime hit “Love Is”, a funky summertime jam that had the entire audience singing along.

By the time they played their breakthrough hit “Run Around”, the sun had set and Festival Park was alive with energy.

They fittingly saved their other massive hit “Hook” until the end, before blasting through a reprise of “Devil Went Down to Georgia”.

The encore was a blistering cover of ZZ Top’s classic “La Grange”, capping off a tight 90-minute set of real music and good times, highlighted by Popper’s insanely masterful harmonica playing.
