Weekend Movie Update – May 24, 2013: ‘Epic’ ‘Hangover’
It will be a Furious race to box office victory in theaters this Memorial Day weekend, with the return of the Wolfpack and an Epic family adventure taking on Fast cars, while The Pioneer takes you to Oblivion.
Here’s your Outer Banks Movie Update for the weekend of May 24, 2013!
The science fiction adventure Oblivion (rated PG13), starring Tom Cruise (Top Gun, Interview with the Vampire), Morgan Freeman (The Dark Knight, Unforgiven), and Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace), opens at the historic Pioneer Theatre in Manteo, starting this Friday for a one week run.
Showtime at The Pioneer is 8pm nightly.
The futuristic mystery from director Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy) is about a veteran assigned to extract Earth’s remaining resources 60 years after an alien war all but destroyed the planet, who begins to question what he knows about his mission and himself.

Wilksboro, North Carolina native Zach Galifianakis (The Campaign) and Greensboro, North Carolina native Ken Jeong (NBC’s Community) bring the Wolfpack to Las Vegas in the comedy sequel The Hangover Part III (rated R), which starts tonight (Wednesday) at 10pm at R/C KDH Movies 10 in Kill Devil Hills and North Beach Movie Diner in Corolla.
Also starring Bradley Cooper (Wedding Crashers), Ed Helms (We’re the Millers), Melissa McCarthy (Tammy), and Heather Graham (Boogie Nights), you can check out the official trailer in the player below!
Also new in theaters this week, The Rock (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) revs it up with Vin Diesel (Riddick) in Fast & Furious 6 (rated PG13), the latest installment in the flashy hot wheels franchise, starting tomorrow night (Thursday) at 10pm, also playing locally at both R/C KDH Movies 10 and North Beach Movie Diner.
With a huge cast returning from all of the previous Fast films, including Michelle Rodriguez (Avatar), Paul Walker (Into the Blue), Jordana Brewster (Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning), and Tyrese (Transformers), you can cruise through the official trailer using the player below!
Huge adventure is found in tiny places in the new animated family film Epic (rated PG), opening Friday at R/C KDH Movies 10 in Kill Devil Hills.
In the fantasy, starring the voices of Amanda Seyfried (Red Riding Hood), Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games), and pop singer Beyoncé Knowles, a teenager fins herself transported to a deep forest where a battle between good and evil is taking place.
