‘Endless Summer’ Weekend Celebrates Iconic Surf Film’s 50th Anniversary With Robert August
This summer marks the 50th anniversary of the the quintessential surf film, and your chance to watch it and even paddle out for a session with the the surfing icon who starred in it and inspired millions to pickup their first surfboard is happening this weekend on Hatteras Island.
REAL Watersports in the village of Waves will host its 4th Annual Endless Summer Weekend starting this Friday, celebrating this year’s the milestone 50th anniversary of The Endless Summer, with special guests including the film’s star, surfing legend Robert August.
In the film, director Bruce Brown follows two surfers, Mike Hynson and August, as they travel around the world on the ultimate quest for “the perfect wave.”

The 4th Annual Endless Summer Weekend is happening this Friday, May 24 through Memorial Day Monday, May 27, with events happening at REAL Watersports in Rodanthe each day, including surf sessions, professional product demonstrations, and live music.
The highlight will be Robert August himself narrating a special screening of the original Endless Summer movie at 7pm this Sunday, May 26.
An autograph session is scheduled from 6 to 8pm this Saturday, May 25.
The live entertainment lineup starts with Mojo Collins from 6 to 10pm this Thursday, May 23, followed by Excellent Nosh at 8pm on Friday May 24, and Westmain at 6pm on Saturday, May 25.
Admission to all events is free.
