Bring the entire family to the second annual Earth Fair OBX at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head on Saturday, April 20, from 1 to 4 pm. Admission is free and festivities will be held rain or shine.

Hands-on learning stations and craft activities will be part of the day’s events, along with dozens of exhibitors sharing information and tips on ways to protect and preserve the environment.

Free Earth Fair OBX II T-shirts will be given to the first 250 participants who fill up their “passports” by attending a variety of learning stations, according to organizer Christin Brown.

“The shirts feature an awesome logo by local artist Chris Wheeler,” she said. “Once people pick up their shirts, they are welcome to tie-dye them.” The T-shirts are provided by a grant from the Outer Banks Community Foundation, Brown noted.

Rachel Landrum, project and promotions coordinator for Sun Realty, donated royal blue shopping totes with bright yellow logos for giveaways. The reusable bags are ideal for groceries, which saves paper and plastic.

Last year’s inaugural Earth Fair was so successful that Jennette’s Pier received a sustainability award from the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources. This year, the pier was named as one of only 14 official expo sites for Earth Day by the N.C. Science Festival.

Expect to see the following exhibitors: N.C. Aquarium on Roanoke Island, UNC’s Coastal Studies Institute, Dare County Soil & Water Conservation, Dare Master Gardeners, First Flight High School Environmental Club, Hatteras Island Ocean Center, Jockey’s Ridge State Park, Kind Confections, N.C. Coastal Federation. N.C. Coastal Reserve, Network for Endangered Sea Turtles (NEST). NOAA’s Monitor National Marine Sanctuary, NYR Organic, Outer Banks Children’s Museum, OBX Center for Dolphin Research, Outer Banks Wild Care, Outer Banks Catch and Outer Banks SPCA.

Earth Fair OBX II is happening this Saturday, April 20, from 1 to 4pm at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head.

Admission is free.
