Weekend Movie Update – Oct. 12, 2012
Ethan Hawk gets scared, Ben Affleck gets real, and Kevin James goes Boom in theaters this week, while The Pioneer goes Lawless with a rare rated R screening.
Here’s your Outer Banks Movie Update for the weekend of Oct. 12, 2012!
The period drama Lawless (rated R), starring Shia Labeouf (Transformers) and Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises), opens at the historic Pioneer Theatre in Manteo, starting this Friday for a one week run.
Based on the true story of a moonshine gang operating in Franklin County, VA during Prohibition, the cast also includes Guy Pearce (Prometheus), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises), Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland), and Jessica Chastain (The Help).

Leading this week’s new releases is the horror thriller Sinister (rated R), about a true-crime novelist who uncovers supernatural secrets about his new house that put his family in danger, from director Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose).
Starring Ethan Hawke (Training Day, Reality Bites), Juliet Rylance, James Ransone, and Vincent D’Onofrio (The Cell), the film features some of the most terrifying “found footage” videos created yet, if the spooky red band (restricted) trailer below is any indication.
Another true story new in theaters this week, Ben Affleck directs and stars in the drama Argo (rated R), about the high concept mission to rescue American prisoners caught in the 1979 Iranian revolution by pretending to be a Hollywood film production.
Also starring Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), John Goodman (The Big Lebowski), and Alan Arkin (Little Miss Sunshine), you can watch the official trailer for Argo in the player below!
Teachers get a new hero to cheer for in Here Comes the Boom (rated PG), starring Kevin James (Grown Ups, Paul Blart: Mall Cop) as a high school biology teacher who moonlights as a mixed martial arts fighter to help raise money to save the school’s music program.
The heartwarming comedy also stars Salma Hayek (From Dusk Till Dawn) and Happy Days legend Henry Winkler (Scream).
