The new Judge Dredd leads four new releases into theaters this week, while Hope springs with laughter at The Pioneer.

Here’s your Outer Banks Movie Update for the weekend of Sept. 21, 2012!

 The comedy drama Hope Springs (rated PG13) opens at the historic Pioneer Theatre in Manteo, starting this Friday for a one week run.

Starring Meryl Streep (Out of Africa, The Devil Wears Prada), Tommy Lee Jones (The Fugitive, Captain America), and Steve Carell (The 40 Year Old Virgin), the film is about a middle-aged couple that attends an intense week of counseling to work on their relationship after being married for 30 years.

Showtime at The Pioneer is 8pm nightly.

Headlining this week’s new releases has Karl Urban taking over from Sylvester Stallone as the new judge, jury, and executioner of the future in Dredd (rated R), starting this Friday at KDH Movies 10 in Kill Devil Hills in both 2D and 3D formats.

In addition to Urban (Star Trek), the newest adaptation of the classic Judge Dredd comic book also stars Olivia Thrilby (Juno) and Lena Headey (300, Game of Thrones).

The Halloween movie season begins with the creepy House at the End of the Street (rated PG13), starring The Hunger Games‘ heroine Jennifer Lawrence as a teen who moves with her newly divorced mom next door to a haunted house.

In addition to Lawrence (X-Men: The First Class), the thriller also stars with Elizabeth Shue (The Karate Kid) and and the next Norman Bates, Max Thierot (Bates Motel).

Also new this week, from the writer of Training Day comes the action drama End of Watch (rated R), starring Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko), Michael Pena (Shooter), and Anna Kendrick (Twilight).

The action drama attempts to show you the world of two young Los Angeles police officers through the use of “found footage”, giving the story a sense of realism.

Finally, Clint Eastwood (The Unforgiven) returns to theaters this week in Trouble with the Curve (rated PG13), a family drama centered around baseball.

Trouble with the Curve also stars Amy Adams (Man of Steel), Justin Timberlake (The Social Network), and John Goodman (The Babe).
