Southern Culture on the Skids Returns to Port O' Call

 North Carolina music legends Southern Culture on the Skids return to the Outer Banks this weekend for two nights live in concert at Port O’ Call in Kill Devil Hills.

Formed in Chapel Hill, NC in 1983, Southern Culture on the Skids have made a career of successfully carving out a unqiue musical genre that could be called “surfabilly punk”, but truly defies description, as does their sharp, often dark humor.

Their original music has been used in various feature films over the years, including “Soul City” in both Happy Gilmore (1996) and the Dukes of Hazzard (2005), “White Trash” in Beavis and Butt-Head Do America (1996), and “Camel Walk” in Flirting with Disaster (1996).

The band themselves appeared briefly in the 1997 slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer, which was written by New Bern native Kevin Williamson (Scream, Dawson’s Creek The Vampire Diaries) and was filmed in nearby Southport, North Carolina.

During a party scene early in the film, SCOTS is featured performing their track “My Baby’s Got the Strangest Ways”, which you can hear in the player below.

You can see Southern Culture on the Skids live in concert at Port O’ Call in Kill Devil Hills this Friday, July 6 and Saturday, July 7.

Showtime is 10pm both nights.
