Weekend Movie Update – May 18, 2012

Three new releases arrive in theaters this week, including a double dose of NC supermodel-turned-actress Brooklyn Decker, a very naughty dictator, and lively chimpanzee swinging into The Pioneer.

Rihanna stars in Battleship

The family film Chimpanzee (rated G) – a true life adventure from Disney – starts Friday at the historic Pioneer Theatre in Manteo, with showtimes at set for 8pm nightly.

A trio of new films open at KDH Movies 10 in Kill Devil Hills this week – two of which star North Carolina transplant Brooklyn Decker.

What to Expect when You’re Expecting is an adaptation of the popular instruction manual for expecting parents.

It co-stars Cameron Diaz (There’s Something About Mary), Jennifer Lopez (Out of Sight), and Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games), and you can check out a trailer using the player below!

Battleship is actually based on the board game of the same name, though the game never featured robot aliens attacking Earth.

The tititular ships at sea thankfully remain, according to the trailer below.

The fantasy adventure extravaganza also stars Oscar nominee Liam Neeson (Schindler’s List) and pop music superstar Rihanna, making her acting debut.

Also new this week, the comedy The Dictator (rated R) starring Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) gets a head start by opening today (Wednesday, May 16) in Kill Devil Hills. You can watch a preview in the player below!
