The annual event put on the by the Virginia Beach Jaycees has historically been recognized the oldest surfing competition in North America and the second longest continuously-run surf contest in the world, but this new rating – an upgrade made specifically in conjunction with milestone golden anniversary – now officially places the ECSC in class all by itself.

Surfers competing in ASP Star events gain ratings points that figure into the ASP World Rankings, with the top 32 surfers qualifying for the ASP World Tour – all of which suggests that the highest caliber of professional surfers on the planet will compete in front of local fans like never before this year.
