HalloWeek Halloween Events on the Outer Banks
Halloween Week 2016 events on the Outer Banks expand to include Halloween Film Festival Oct. 27-29 in Kill Devil Hills and Parade of Costumes Oct. 30 in Nags Head!
HalloWeek on the Outer Banks, North Carolina just got a whole lot bigger with the addition this year of the inaugural Halloween International Film Festival, presented by Halloween Daily News and OBX Entertainment over three days in October, featuring independent films submitted from around the world.
In addition to the Official Selections chosen from among the entries in the short film and feature film categories, to be screened in competition during the Festival, each night will conclude with a Featured Selection screening of special showcased independent movies that celebrate the theme and mission of the event.
This year’s Official Selections, including more than 30 independent films from around the world, and invited Featured Selections will be revealed soon!
The first Halloween International Film Festival will take place on the Outer Banks, North Carolina during Halloween Weekend, October 27-29, 2016, to be followed by the 3rd Annual Outer Banks Halloween Parade of Costumes on Sunday, October 30.
All Festival film screenings will be shown at RC Theatres Movies 10 in Kill Devil Hills. Information on how to purchase tickets in advance will be announced in the coming weeks.
Official accommodations are available at a special discounted rate for Film Festival / HalloWeek attendees at the Hilton Garden Inn in Kitty Hawk and the Ramada Plaza in Kill Devil Hills, both located on the beautiful Outer Banks oceanfront with scenic ocean view rooms and free public beach access, just minutes from the host venue RC Theatres.
The room blocks at both the Hilton (252-261-1290) and Ramada (252-441-2151) are listed under “Halloween Film Festival”, so be sure to ask for that block when calling either hotel for reservations to get the discounted rate, or for online reservations click here.
The mission of the Halloween International Film Festival is to promote the artistry of independent films made in the spirit of creativity, support the future of cinema by providing exposure for talented visionary filmmakers, and celebrate a collective passion for Halloween.
Known as the “land of beginnings”, the Outer Banks of North Carolina is the site of America’s first urban legend, The Lost Colony of Roanoke Island, the true story of the first English colonists to land in the new world only to mysteriously vanish without explanation in 1587.
The Outer Banks is also where the infamous pirate Blackbeard was killed and reportedly still haunts the small, isolated island of Ocracoke; and it is where the Wright Brothers launched mankind toward the stars with the first powered flight in 1903, in what is now the town of Kill Devil Hills.
Full details and updated news, including the rules and guidelines for film submissions, as well as accommodations discounts and the festival screening schedule, will be announced in the coming weeks at OBXentertainment.com.
Sponsors for this event include Halloween Daily News, Outer Banks Visitors Bureau, Outer Banks Sentinel, Pirate 95.3, Access Design & Print, Jolly Roger, RC Theatres, Hilton Garden Inn Kitty Hawk, Ramada Plaza Nags Head Oceanfront, and Dare County Arts Council.
Registration for the parade opens and the pre-parade Halloween Festival begins at 2pm, featuring live entertainment, special guests, trick or treating, and new additions for 2016, including The Great Pumpkin Contest, sponsored by Outer Banks Entrepreneurs (click here for details).
The walking parade around the Kelly’s property will begin at 3pm. Those who do not wish to walk in the parade can watch and cheer it on in the spectators area located in the Kelly’s front lawn. Everyone attending the event is encouraged to dress in costume in the spirit of the season.
All costume contest entries must be registered to participate in the parade and to be eligible for prizes.
Everyone who registers to walk in the Parade will be entered into the Costume Contest, with the winners to be announced during an Awards Ceremony immediately following the Parade. You must be present and remain in costume until the winners are announced in order to claim any prizes.
Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes among the parade entries in various categories and age groups, including Best Male and Female 5 and under; Best Male and Female 6-12; Best Male and Female 13-adult; Best Couple; and Best Family/Group Costumes, and a new category for 2016 to be announced in the coming weeks.
