[Local Buzz] Outer Banks Brewing Station – Revolutionary Food, Beer, and Nightlife

The Outer Banks Brewing Station in Kill Devil Hills is home of the area’s most groundbreaking and innovative restaurant and brewery, a local nightlife leader with more than a taste for the arts and community, and an Earth friendly model of success.

Owners Eric Reese and Aubrey Davis first met while both were serving in the Peace Corps in 1992, but it wasn’t until 1997 when a mutual interest in microbreweries inspired the idea for them to launch their own brewpub.

Since first opening its doors in Kill Devil Hills, the Outer Banks Brewing Station has stood out as a unique fixture on the local landscape, with its giant silos and steep pointed roof presenting a striking exterior image, while inside is a cozy atmospheric eatery, featuring an extra long bar and a wall of clear glass between the dining room the brewery itself.

After years of perseverance in getting local town codes changed and updated, Davis and Reese were ultimately the first restaurant in the country to be partially powered by an on-site green energy generating turbine.

In recent years, the Brewing Station’s spacious backyard has been opened up as a cool spot to have a drink or snack while hearing some (free) live music on evenings from 5 to 8pm in the summer.

On the award-winning menu, you will find many unique and delicious twists on some classic Southern favorites, including Chef Pok’s signature Shrimp and Grits dish that blew Guy Fieri away when he filmed a 2013 episode of his Food Network series Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives at the Outer Banks Brewing Station.

After dark, the restaurant is transformed into one of the hottest nightclubs on the Outer Banks, featuring a live DJ most nights, Ladies Night every Wednesday, and numerous national music acts on stage in concert throughout the year.
