Posted By on August 7, 2018

Grammy nominated national recording hip-hop artist and North Carolina native Petey Pablo is coming to the Outer Banks this month, live in concert at the area’s newest hot spot for nightlife, Secret Island Restaurant & Entertainment in Kill Devil Hills.

Born in Greenville, North Carolina, Pablo spent five years in prison for a 1993 armed robbery and upon his release moved to New York City, where he met Black Rob and Busta Rhymes, and, according to rumor, was signed to Jive Records after an A&R director overheard him rapping in a club bathroom.

His first single “Raise Up” was released in the summer of 2001, produced by Timbaland, eventually reaching number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100. His debut album Diary of a Sinner: 1st Entry peaked at number 13 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Gold by the RIAA.

In early 2003, Pablo’s debut album received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album.

He followed up his debut with a successful sophomore album, Still Writing in My Diary: 2nd Entry, which peaked at number 4 on the Billboard 200, powered by the lead single “Freek-a-Leek”, produced by Lil Jon, which reached number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2004, Pablo achieved more mainstream success for his feature on Ciara’s hit single “Goodies” which topped the Billboard Hot 100.

After a brief hiatus from music, Pablo founded his own independent label, Carolina Music Group. On January 17, 2016, after the Carolina Panthers’ victory over the Seattle Seahawks in the 2016 NFC Divisional playoffs, Pablo released a new single via Soundcloud and YouTube titled “Carolina Colors”, which was used as a hype song for the 2016 NFC Championship Game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Beyond the music world, in 2002, Petey Pablo appeared as himself in the film Drumline where he performs “Club Banger”, “You Can Find Me”, “Raise Up”, and “I Told Y’All”, and in 2009 he appeared in the film Just Another Day where he played a character named B-Bone. In 2015, he played Clyde in an episode of the hit Fox series Empire, in which his character performed “Snitch Bitch” with Lucious Lyon (played by Terrence Howard) behind bars.

Petey Pablo will take the stage live in concert, presented by OBXtravaganza, on Saturday, August 25 at Secret Island Restaurant & Entertainment (the former location of Port ‘O Call) in Kill Devil Hills. Doors open at 8:30pm. DJ Wrecka will open the show.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 the day of the show, with a limited number of VIP packages available for $100, on sale now at Secret Island and online here.
