Meet the Captains at ‘Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks’ Season 5 Premiere Event

Posted By on June 27, 2018

The locally filmed National Geographic Channel (NatGeo) reality competition series Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks is about to launch its fifth season, and there will be a special charity event this weekend featuring the first ever screening of the Season Premiere episode and a meet-and-greet with the local captains.

In the Season Premiere episode, entitled “Battle Lines”, it’s opening day of the bluefin tuna season in the Outer Banks, and a reduced quota means there’s more pressure than ever to land a fish. Captain Tyler McLaughlin of the PinWheel has traveled all the way from Gloucester, Massachusetts, to fish in these waters, but soon finds there is no Southern hospitality in tuna fishing. The Southern captains are determined to watch out for each other, putting the Northern boats at a disadvantage.

Filmed on the Outer Banks, North Carolina, the breakout TV show spin off of the original Wicked Tuna that follows the exciting work of hardcore tuna fishermen on the Outer Banks, production of the new season began in January, once again shot mostly aboard the boats of the local and visiting captains from Gloucester until the region’s bluefin quota is met.

Locally based charter boat Fishin’ Frenzy, led by Captain Greg Mayer, has won the competition each of the first three seasons of the show, while Reels of Fortune, led by Captain Charlie Griffin, was the most recent winner in Season 4. The other local boats competing this season are Little Shell led by Captain Nick Gowitzka and Doghouse led by Captain Britton “Shack” Shackelford.

The premiere event with the local captains in attendance is happening this Saturday, June 30, at the First Flight High School auditorium, located on Veterans Drive in Kill Devil Hills, starting at 6pm. The Outer Banks captains will be available for autographs and photos from 6 to 7:15pm, followed by the world premiere screening of the first episode from Season 5 of Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks at 7:30pm.

This event is a fundraiser with proceeds to benefit North Carolina Watermen United (NCWU). Tickets for admission are $20 (or $10 for NCWU members), available at the door and in advance online here. Seating in the auditorium will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis.
