Posted By on May 10, 2018

Known worldwide as pioneering hip hop artists and of course the house band for NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the legendary Roots crew from Pittsburgh, PA will headline the live entertainment lineup at the upcoming 13th Annual Wind Voyager Triple-S Invitational kiteboarding tournament at Real Watersports in Waves

Held each summer the Real Watersports flagship store in Waves, on Hatteras Island, the Triple-S Invitational is already the biggest kiteboarding event in the world, but in recent years it has also hosted some of the biggest names in music to ever perform on the Outer Banks.

Internationally recognized as the crown jewel of wakestyle kiteboarding competition, the Wind Voyager Triple-S Invitational showcases the talents of the most progressive wakestyle kiteboarders on the planet. The format pits riders against one another in high-stakes heats and laid-back freeriding sessions in the world’s premier kite park.

Formed in 1987 by Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter and Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, The Roots are known for their jazzy and eclectic approach to hip-hop, featuring live musical instruments.

Since their first independent album-length release, the band has released 10 studio albums, two EPs, two collaboration albums with other artists, and they have collaborated on recordings and in live shows with a huge variety of artists in numerous musical genres.

The Roots served as the house band on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon from 2009 to 2014, and in the same role (and accompanying show guest artists) on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon since 2014.

The 2018 Wind Voyager Triple-S Invitational is happening June 2-8, based out of the Real Watersports flagship location in the village of Waves on Hatteras Island.

Additional musical entertainment happening during the week includes reggae artist (and son of Bob Marley) Kymani Marley and The Dubplates on Monday, June 4, starting at 6pm, and rapper 2 Chainz on Wednesday, June 6, starting at 6pm, during which filming for a movie will be taking place (we’ll have more on this in the coming weeks).

The Roots will take the stage on Friday, June 8, with The Dubplates opening the show, starting at 8pm.

Tickets for the Roots show are $50 each and can be purchased in advance online at the official website here.
