Two sisters from the Outer Banks have just published their first children’s book, entitled Queenie Wahine, Little Surfer Girl, written by Ashely Norris and illustrated by Jess Lowcher, that is aimed at young girls.

In life, we have all experienced fear and hesitance when faced with new circumstances. While it isn’t easy to try something new, often a boost of encouragement from loved ones is what helps us to channel our inner bravery and persevere through life’s difficulties.

Kill Devil Hills’ Planning and Inspections Department employee Matt Lowcher’s daughters Ashley Norris and Jess Lowcher have written and illustrated a children’s book, Queenie Wahine, Little Surfer Girl. Queenie Wahine provides encouragement and acknowledgement to children, by showcasing outstanding talent to deliver a powerful message of finding inner bravery.

Queenie Wahine, Little Surfer Girl is a book whose message is not just to empower girls but all children to choose bravery, not perfection. The story features a surfing family who encourage their daughter to surf for the first time. In order to catch a wave the little surfer girl, Queenie Wahine, learns to overcome her fear of failure and of trying something new.”

Stay tuned, as Little Millie Ford and Her Skateboard will be “rolling out” this summer, bringing another great message to children.
