OBX Mystery Dinner Goes All Local For ‘A Deadly Reunion’

As it opens its third season entertaining seasonal crowds in Kill Devil Hills this weekend, the OBX Mystery Dinner can boast a whole host of local roots. This year’s production – entitled A Deadly Reunion – has a cast, a showrunner, and even a playwright who call Dare County home.

“The Outer Banks has a deep pool of artistic theatrical talent”, said OBX Mystery Dinner owner Matt Marberry. “It’s quite an honor to be able to show it off to visitors and locals this summer. Anyone familiar with the Outer Banks theatre scene will see several familiar faces in this season’s show.”

The theme of this year’s show is a 20th Reunion for the Lloyd Llewellyn High School Class of 1996, where two decades of romance, jealousy, and bitterness come to a hilariously fatal climax.

The script was written over the winter by first-time playwright Tim Hass, who recently directed Theatre of Dare’s spring production of Picasso at the Lapin Agile. He’s also in the show’s cast, along with other Theatre of Dare alums including Penelope Carroll, Stuart Parks II, Lisa Pfuhl, and Daniel Ziegler.

Michael Nugent, who appeared in The Tides production at the Baum Center this winter, rounds out the show’s cast and is also serving as its Production Manager.

For those that haven’t been to an OBX Mystery Dinner show, the evening includes a four-course meal wrapped around an interactive five-act comic murder mystery. Audience members are encouraged to interrogate the characters/suspects in between the acts, and those who correctly identify the perpetrator at the end of the show are eligible to win prizes.

“It’s a family-friendly show, a fun script, and a fun cast,” says Carroll, who has appeared in each of the OBX Mystery Dinner’s three seasons. “We really enjoy interacting with our guests, and everyone seems to have a great time. For people visiting the Outer Banks, or for locals looking for something to do over the summer, it’s a great way to spend an evening out.”

The OBX Mystery Dinner production of A Deadly Reunion opens this Saturday, May 28, and runs through September 5 at the Comfort Inn on the Ocean in Kill Devil Hills. For tickets and more information click here.
