Outer Banks Weekend Movie Update – Dec. 18, 2015: ‘The Force Awakens’

The movie event of the decade is finally here, as the highly anticipated sequel to Return of the Jedi opens and Star Wars strikes back with The Force Awakens in theaters locally and around the world this weekend.

Here’s your Outer Banks Movie Update from a galaxy far, far away for the weekend of Dec. 18, 2015!

The film officially opens this Friday, but real fans will be at the Thursday preview shows tomorrow, which falls on the 112th anniversary of the Wright Brothers’ first flight in Kill Devil Hills on Dec. 17.

Earth 383 Comics & Games is hosting a pre-movie party at R/C KDH Movies 10 in Kill Devil Hills starting at 3:30pm, featuring Star Wars 501st Legion Carolina Garrison in costume as various characters from the films and available for photos with fans, in addition to a Jedi trivia challenge, a live recording of the Comics, Life, and Everything podcast, interviews, scene reenactments, and more fun, followed by the first screenings starting at 7pm.

The historic Pioneer Theatre in Manteo is also showing The Force Awakens, starting on Thursday with tickets to go on sale at the box office for cash only tomorrow (Thursday). Showtime at The Pioneer is 8pm nightly.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (rated PG13) is directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan & Abrams, and features a cast including actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow.

They will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker. The film is being produced by Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk, and John Williams returns as the composer.
