Outer Banks Locals Join NPS Youth Conservation Corps

Posted By on July 28, 2015

This summer, the National Park Service (NPS) Outer Banks Group hired local youths for the Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program to assist with many park projects.

These energetic young students recently performed valuable work in Outer Banks Group of national parks.  In Cape Hatteras National Seashore, the small crew painted the Bodie Island Lighthouse fence and several housing units in the Bodie Island District.

At Wright Brothers National Memorial the youth replaced boundary markers and cables along the bike path and through-out the parks, they assisted with the installation of new wayside exhibits.

Despite the hot weather this summer, the crew gained valuable insight into their local national park units and have enjoyed the interpretive talks and programs they attended.  The National Park Service appreciates their hard work and thanks them for a job well done.
