Dancer Christine Dakin To Screen Film, Perform On Outer Banks

Professional dancer Christine Dakin will screen her film La Voz del Cuerpo – The Body Speaks on the Outer Banks this month in Manteo, sponsored by the Bryan Cultural Series.

A talk and dance performance will accompany the film screening.

The event captures the personal poetics of a Martha Graham dancer.

Christine Dakin is known for her performances of Martha Graham’s roles and for those created for her by Graham and artists such as Robert Wilson, Twyla Tharp and Martha Clarke.

Performing in the principal theaters of the world, partnered by renowned artists such as Rudolf Nureyev and filmed in the repertory, she was chosen by Graham for the company in 1976 and was named Artistic Director in 2002.

The Bryan Cultural Series presents Christine Dakin performing and screening her film La Voz Del Cuerpo – The Body Speaks on Friday, May 22 at 7:30pm in the Indoor Theatre at Roanoke Island Festival Park.

Tickets are $15 and are available at Duck’s Cottage Coffee & Books in Duck; Downtown Books in Manteo; Gray’s Dept. Store in Kitty Hawk; and Sea Green Gallery in Nags Head or online here.
