The first ever Shallowbag Shag Beach Music Festival is coming to the Outer Banks this Memorial Day to officially kick off the local summer music season, with an all-star lineup of talent, including the legendary Embers, The Tams, Jim Quick & Coastline, The Holiday Band, and The Carolina Breakers, live in concert at Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo.

The Tams will be live at the Shallowbag Shag Beach Music Festival at Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo on Memorial Day, May 26, 2014.

Atlanta, GA’s legendary beach music icons The Tams will be the closing act, scheduled to hit the stage at 7pm this Monday.

The band has recorded numerous shag-friendly favorites over the decades, including their first Billboard Top 10 hit “What Kind of Fool (Do You Think I Am)” in 1964.

Perhaps their most loved hit song is the classic “Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy”, a beach music anthem first released in 1968.

The Tams’ music was featured fittingly enough in the 1989 feature film Shag, but their song “The Ain’t Nothing Like Shaggin'” suffered some controversy when it was banned by the BBC because the word “shag”  means “to have sexual intercourse” in colloquial British English.
