Outer Banks Weekend Movie Update – April 6, 2012

The 94-year-old Pioneer Theatre goes digital this week, while a teen sex comedy comes of age in a nostalgic reunion and a 1997 blockbuster gets the 3D treatment.

Here’s your Outer Banks movie update for the weekend of April 6, 2012!

The big news this week is re-opening Friday of the historic Pioneer Theatre in Manteo, after shutting down for a week in order to allow for a digital upgrade in the projection booth and the installation of additional surround sound speakers behind the screen.

The first digital movie to be shown at the local landmark will be the current hit comedy Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax (rated PG). You can watch a trailer in the player below!

The animated family film stars the voice talents of Danny DeVito (Batman Returns), Zac Efron (High School Musical), Betty White (TV’s ‘Golden Girls’), and country music sensation Taylor Swift.

This week’s only new release is the comedy American Reunion (rated R), the sequel to 1999’s raunch fest American Pie. You can watch the official trailer using the player below!

All of the original cast is back for the reunion, including Alyson Hannigan (‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, ‘How I Met Your Mother’), Seann William Scott (Final Destination, Role Models), Mena Suvari (American Beauty), John Cho (Star Trek), Shannon Elizabeth (Scary Movie), and Tara Reid (The Big Lebowski, Urban Legend).

Following a mid-week re-release last Wednesday, director James Cameron’s 1997 blockbuster Titanic is also back in theatres, now in 3D, with 2pm and 7pm shows scheduled daily at KDH Movies 10.

For music fans, KDH Movies 10 will also present The Metropolitan Opera’s performance of Massenet’s Manon broadcast live for only one day on Saturday, April 7th at noon.
